Coffee & Cigarettes Music Video

January 28, 2022
Ruff Gr8ness was in Brazil recently to shoot his music video for his song, “Coffee & Cigarettes”. With Brazil’s beautiful beaches it was the first choice for the location to shoot the video. For anyone who hasn’t listened to the song here yet, Coffee & Cigarettes is a synthpop-esque, soft rock and alternative rnb ballad. The irregular vocal echoes, obscured synths, and sparse arrangement make for the perfect reflective soundtrack. Ruff Gr8ness bewails his feelings authentically and effortlessly and yet the distinction his voice makes with the heavy bassline is unbelievably satisfying. Still, it might be the subtle sultry background adlibs laced throughout the track which really sell the coffee & cigarettes. Coffee & Cigarettes is included in the Ruff Gr8ness kitchen Collection Volume 1 EP, an EP consisting of kitchen-centric singles. You can preview the Ruff Gr8ness kitchen Collection Volume 1 EP here.

Behind the scenes

First of all, we must give props to the beautiful city of Espírito Santo, which is near Sao Paulo in Brazil. Espírito Santo is a Brazilian state that offers beautiful landscapes along the coast and inland. Tropical beaches and impressive mountains are within a short distance of each other. Espírito Santo has long a rugged coastline of about 248.5 miles (400 kilometers) and 73 islands. The state offers a lot of variety thanks to beautiful beaches, impressive mountains, and interesting cities.
The concept of the Coffee & Cigarettes video was simple; to capture the serenity of the beach and the beauty of the local women featured in the video. A perfect representation of a song about deep self-reflection, longing and reminiscing about the beauty and powerful effect of a woman and, unrequited love.

The Beautiful Models

The two Espírito Santo models picked for the video are stunningly beautiful on the outside but what was more important to Ruff Gr8ness was that their beauty emanates from within. The models can inspire self-confidence just by seeing them in the video. After spending some time getting to acquaint himself with the two models, Ruff Gr8ness had this to say, “They are not just pretty faces; they are gorgeous right down to the fabric of their souls.”
(Review): On-beat sub-bass sounds, subtle falsetto howls, and lyrics featuring brash affirmations of affection mixed with vulnerable pleas of powerlessness to the force of love, make this a sure hit.
What the critics are saying about ‘Coffee & Cigarettes’
(Review): Ruff Gr8ness makes coffee and cigarettes a perfect metaphor in this song. Coffee & Cigarettes is triumphant in its ability to blend the powerful bass line, strong synths and his middle-range vocals.
